Klaw — Kurdish Cap

Region
Kurdistan-wide
The klaw is the rounded short cap that completes the traditional Kurdish man's head. It is made of pressed woven wool — kebad — and takes a half-spherical shape with a narrow brim. Black and dark brown are the most common colours. In some regions a pûşî is wrapped around it. In Iraqi Kurdistan and the Syrian north the klaw is an article of plain mountain belonging, worn by farmers and elders. A man's origin can sometimes be read from the cut of his klaw — a Sulaymani klaw differs from a Diyarbakır klaw — like a silent passport.
